The dictionary defines the word 'interview' as:

A conversation, such as one conducted by a reporter, in which facts or statements are elicited from another.

Is it therefore presumptuous of me to assume that, when I meet a certain person (Ms. Abbott!) in a cafe and ask her a series of questions that she should be intelligent enough to recognise it as an interview? Especially when she knows who I am and recognises my face from, oh, I don't know - possibly every single press conference she has ever given?

Silly woman. Clearly if she is not holding her manager's hand for most of the day she's liable to wander off and get herself in to trouble.

The people living next door to my father - muggles, they'd have to be - have taken it upon themselves to string up a giant, glowing Father Christmas-shaped light on their front window. Every so often it lets out a disturbing 'ho ho ho' and I swear I'm about to hex it through the window if it does it again.

Other than that, things here are going well. My aunt has come up and is visiting, along with my cousin and her daughter (she's only five and she's completely adorable), and we spent the day putting up the Christmas tree for my dad and making gingerbread biscuits and other such things.

I've been trying desperately to find a manicurist around here, someone whose definition of nail polish goes a little beyond charming the entire top of my finger red. If I can't find someone I'll have to floo into London early on the 23rd to get my nails done by Vanessa, who is my regular manicurist. Not that that really bothers me, but it's just less time to spend with my father, more time working...it all adds up in the end.

Anyway, I. There it goes again. Ho ho ho. I swear I'll scream if I ever hear those words again.

I've been so busy over the past few days, packing my bags to go and spend the holidays with my father. He's much better now than he was back in July, but I doubt he'll be back on his feet again soon.

We always had a tradition, when I was a kid. After my mother...passed...when we would decorate the Christmas tree, my father would lift me onto his shoulder so I could reach the top, to put on the star. I guess now I don't need lifting up anymore.

Nonetheless, I will enjoy spending Christmas with my family. I seldom get to see them, and when your only contact with your daughter is seeing her name in the paper every fortnight...well, that's just not enough.

I will see you all again when I return.

On second thoughts, I ought to take this with me, just in case.

My oh my.

It seems as though one's monetary wealth - and their standing in society - is inversely proportional to one's being able to keep their mouth shut. Honestly, people are running about flaunting their so-called secrets like a black handkercheif in the left pocket of a tuxedo - it's simply wonderful.

I love my job.

It's such a lovely day - no clouds or rain - I think I will go out dancing tonight.

Bertha, if you're about, would you like to join me? I'll be going to The Avery, and maybe to The Den afterwards, depending on who's there.

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed the surprising lack of people at some of the wizarding clubs these days? I went to The Avery on Saturday night and the dancefloor was almost empty. It couldn't be that the owners are becoming particular about who they let in...especially at The Avery, last week I saw a witch wearing sheer pink robes (and she was not the sort of woman who should have been!)

People just...aren't going out like they used to. And it's ruining my bloody weekend!

It's Halloween! I had almost forgotten until I looked out my flat window and saw two children dressed up as a pumpkin and a werewolf (for a while I hadn't a clue what was going on, silly me - muggles like to wear costumes on Halloween) and then I realised!

I shall have to go out and celebrate!

(Oh, and I found my cloak. The doorman at The Red Umbrella had it and was minding it for me; though why the tracking charm didn't pick that up I'll never know.)

This is not on.

I've lost my cloak, I can't think of where it is. I've been retracing my steps over and over again: I went out on Friday night to a club, then went to a different club and at around one (I'm not sure, it was after twelve, that's all I know) I flooed home...and obviously, my cloak wasn't with me.

I suppose it's silly asking anyone on here if they've seen it, you probably wouldn't have been where I was (but if you were, have you seen a cloak? It's lime green with three darker green ties on the front).

Oh, bugger, I just spilt my tea. I wonder if this will still work with tea spilt on it?

I've been terribly bored lately.

Aside from a few choice people, all of my friends have been either on holidays or off buying houses. I don't know what it is about this time of year that makes people spend so much bloody money!

I finished my column last night and I've had nothing to do since. I thought about getting my nails done but they don't need fixing, and then I was going to go dancing but really, who goes dancing on a Thursday? Nobody, that's who: Wednesday might be a good day for dancing because people are in the middle of the week and need to let loose, and Friday is obviously a great day for going out, but Thursday? Not unless you're alone and desperate to get out.

And I'm not.

Although I do wish I had

It is so good to see my column in the Prophet once again.

So good to know that my readers are, once again, my readers.

So good to introduce myself as "Rita Skeeter, writer for the Daily Prophet."

So good to know that, slowly, I am succeeding.
